What are contact lenses?

Contact lenses are a comfortable and discreet means of correcting your vision problems, such as farsightedness, nearsightedness, and presbyopia. Instead of wearing eyeglasses, you can place the thin, curved lenses on the surface of your eyes. This is the most discreet means of correcting your vision problems.

Contact lenses correct the following vision problems:

  • Myopia/ Nearsightedness: Objects far away from you seem blurry.
  • Hyperopia/ Farsightedness: Objects close to you seem blurry.
  • Astigmatism: Irregularities in your cornea lead to generally blurry vision.
  • Presbyopia: Objects far away from you seem blurry because of age-related factors.

What are the types of contact lenses?

Soft Contact Lenses

Soft contact lenses are extremely comfortable from the very beginning — you don’t need to get used to them. They’re made of soft and flexible plastic that facilitates optimal oxygen flow, ensuring optimal comfort. They’re also easier to maintain.

Rigid Contact Lenses

Rigid contact lenses are harder, so they permit less oxygen flow, which leads to more discomfort. You’ll need to wear rigid contact lenses for a few days before you’re comfortable with them. However, rigid contact lenses are harder to maintain.

Toric Contact Lenses

Toric contact lenses in Bakersfield are meant for patients with astigmatism, a condition that leads to distorted vision because of irregularly shaped corneas. They are shaped like donuts, specifically designed for astigmatism, and they’re available in soft or rigid forms.

Multifocal Contact Lenses

Multifocal contact lenses correct mild to moderate presbyopia, i.e., age-related nearsightedness. They’re available in numerous prescriptions, and they’re extremely versatile, available in both soft and rigid forms. You need adjustment before you’re comfortable with multifocal lenses.

We participate in the following vision plans:

  • Davis Vision
  • Spectra
  • Metro Plus
  • VSP

Our ophthalmology practice participates in numerous vision plans that can cover the cost of your prescription contact lenses, either partially or completely. Please contact our optical center to enquire about your prescription, contact lens options, fittings, and whether you’re eligible for vision plans.

Dr Walia is very knowledgeable, personable and compassionate. He told me about new drops for my extremely dry eyes, just FDA approved. He also caught my husband's cataract development at a routine exam.
